Q 1. Explain two ways
the characters and/ or events fit the action adventure genre.
Use examples from the extract. [10 marks]
You can tell this is
an action adventure film because of the hero fighting the villain. The character
cage is the protagonist, this is the character that drives the narrative
forward, through the choices they make and the actions they take. During the
start if the film it is obvious that he isn’t the best of fighters and he is
the underdog, but because he keeps coming back alive he makes progress. This is
a convention because in action and adventure the character is being the underdog
and the audience thinks he will die. This creates tension because of the
expectation that he doesn’t stand a chance without any military training or
help. When he doesn’t die, this makes his victory all the more impressive and
the movie more entertaining.
